Tubing product range

Oakley Industries does not make sunglasses (and, for the record, we've been around much longer than that company), but we do make high quality welded stainless steel tubing. Here you will find the information you need to order the right type of tubing for your particular need. But if you can't find the information you are looking for, of course feel free to call the toll free number shown at the bottom of this page.

Available alloys

We typically stock a range of stainless steel and high nickel alloys, and can also special order and produce tubing from additional metals. Materials we commonly have on hand include:

  • 304 & 304L

  • 304H

  • 310S

  • 316 & 316L

  • 321

  • 400

  • 600
  • 601

  • 625

  • 825

  • 800

  • 840

  • C276

  • E-BRITE(R)

Click on our alloy page to learn more about the materials available for custom tube production or contact us to determine if we have the alloys you require on hand in the sizes and quantities you need.

Tubing types

All of the tubing we produce begins its life as a welded tube. From there, we can do additional processing to the tube to reduce or essentially eliminate any evidence of a weld seam, or to achieve other goals such as very tight and consistent tolerances. Our welded and drawn over mandrel tubing is nearly indistinguishable from seamless tubing, and is often used as a less expensive substitute for it. Our five types of tubing are:

  • As Welded

  • Outer Diameter Conditioned

  • Bead Hammered

  • Cold Drawn Outside Diameter

  • Welded & Drawn Over Mandrel

Feel free to visit our tubing types page to learn more.

Sizes

The dimensions of a tube's cross section are critical to specify when placing an order. The necessary dimensions are O.D. (or Outer Diameter), I.D. (or Interior Diameter), and Wall Thickness. Two of these three dimensions must be specified when placing an order. The third dimension is not required when specifying a tube cross section as it can be computed from the other two using the formula OD = ID + (2 x Wall). The figure below shows the cross sectional dimensions:

The cross sectional sizes we manufacture vary by tubing type. Please see the sizes page for details. Generally speaking, we can produce tubes with a minimum OD of 1/8 inch (3.175 millimeters) and a maximum OD of 1.25 inches (31.75 millimeters). Available wall thicknesses also vary by tubing type and also vary by OD, and can range from 0.010 inch (0.254 millimeters) to 0.065 inch (1.651 millimeters).

Tubing can be provided in straight lengths from 3/8 inch to 40 feet, or in coils of up to 500 feet. Not all sizes can be coiled, please contact us for details.

Finishing options

Oakley offers a variety of finishing options including stenciling, bead rolling, deburring, coiling, and polishing. We can provide either standard or score and break cut styles, and also can provide a variety of packaging options suitable for domestic or international shipping. Please see our finishing page for more details.

Annealing

Oakley is proud to offer full soak, bright annealing as an option for any of its tubing products. Full soak bright annealing provides the softest possible tubing suitable for the most challenging bending applications. We are also able to offer partially softened tubes for those who want annealed tubing that is not full soft. Our bright anneal also leaves a finish that is as shiny as possible, which is critical for many applications.

Standards and quality control

Oakley is ISO 9001 certified, and maintains a rigorous quality control program employing destructive and non-destructive testing, inspection, comprehensive training, and an incentive based pay program for all employees that values product quality over everything but employee safety. We can produce tubing that meets a wide variety of industry standards, including A-450, A-269, A-554, A-632, A-249, SA-249, B-515, SB-515, B-516, SB-516, Mil T 8606, Mil T 8808 Type 2, Mil T 6845 Type 2, and AMS 5576. Depeding on the tubing type, we can hold tolerances as tight as .001 inch for OD, ID, or wall thickness, and .010 for length. See the sizes page for details.

Custom engineered solutions

If you do not see a tubing product that meets your needs among the standard products described above, please contact us as we may be able to create a custom engineered solution that will meet your exact specifications.
