Finishing options

Oakley offers a variety of finishing options including annealing, stenciling, bead rolling, deburring, coiling, and polishing. We can provide either standard or score and break cut styles, and also can provide a variety of packaging options suitable for domestic or international shipping. We specialized in unique, made-to-order tubing and can custom engineer a solution for virtually any application.

Annealing

Oakley is proud to offer full soak, bright annealing as an option for any of its tubing products. Full soak bright annealing provides the softest possible tubing suitable for the most challenging bending applications. Our bright anneal also leaves a finish that is as shiny as possible, which is critical for many applications. We can also create a variety of other tempers, should your particular application require it. Please contact us for details.

Coiling

As Welded tubing (either annealed or unannealed) can be provided in coils of up to 500 feet. Coils are either loose or level wound, and are available with Outer Diameter measurements of 3/16", 1/4", 9/32", 5/16" 3/8", 7/16", or 1/2". The coil will have an interior diameter of 26 inches, and will be pressure tested and leak free.

Cutting

We provide two types of end cuts. The "score and break" cut, which was originally developed and patented by Oakley Industries, produces a beveled edge with a very minimal burr. The cut is created by running a cutting blade with a 45 degree angle through approximately 80% of the wall thickness, and then snapping the tube in a method that is similar to cutting glass. This type of cut is very effective for applications where the end of the tube will be reduced or inserted into a hole.

The second type of end cut is called "cut and deburred." This cut produces a square end with no camfer on the outer diameter or the interior diameter. This type of cut works well when the end of the tube is to be flared or expanded, or when a flat face is needed for welding or any other reason. Large burrs are removed in a second step, but a small interior burr on the interior diameter may remain. See our sizes page for a discussion of length tolerances that are available.

Stenciling

Oakley can custom line mark tubing with an outer diameter range of 1/4" to 1 1/4" with any information, such as size information, heat numbers, or customer or Oakley part numbers.

Bead rolling

Bead rolling is a common operation used to "pinch in" the tube diameter near the end to allow for the fitting or retention of an internal stopper or other fitting. Oakley can produce a variety of types of bead rolls. Please contact us for details.

Polishing

Oakley maintains in house polishing capabilities, and can polish tube with either a 180 or a 320 grit fiinish.

Custom packaging

We provide a variety of packaging options. Straight length tubes can be shipped in either cardboard or wooden boxes. In addition, we can provide printed or bar coded labels. We are also able to create custom packaging options for special applications, including special container packaging for international shipments. Please contact us for additional details.
